Not Music

(Duophonic UHF Disks)

Stereolab have taken a break to concentrate on solo projects, so their latest album may also be their last.

Not Music sticks with the formula that’s worked for them for 20 years: cool nouvelle vague vocals, repetitive motorik beats, swirling organ, chirpy guitar, spacey electronics, all deployed with charm and intelligence. If that’s it from the Anglo-French art-pop veterans, they’ve left a delightful epitaph.
