Wedding set for huge digital audience

Online participants in Friday’s wedding celebrations could be the largest audience of all.

Wedding fever has gripped Steve Jobs’ legendary “reality distortion field” – the Apple chief executive’s ability to enthuse others about his innovations. As a result, there is a raft of wedding-related apps for the Apple iPhone and iPad, underscoring the pulling power of British royalty in the digital realm.

Some, such as historian David Starkey’s “Kings and Queens” iPad app, which enables users to explore the monarchy’s roller-coaster history “in unprecedented detail and with stunning clarity and colour”, have become instant hits in the UK and elsewhere.

The app gives explanations of why fashionistas love Kate Middleton and advice on how to be the perfect wedding guest. It will include streaming of live television coverage of the wedding.

A royal wedding version of the popular “Say What You See: The Collection” iPhone/iPad game features a wedding scene painted by artist Amie Bolissian and is described by its developers as “a delightful way to digitally show your support for the upcoming union on your Apple device”.
