The Ivey school at the University of Western Ontario has appointed Carol Stephenson as dean for her second five-year term. Ms Stephenson’s first five-year term will end in summer 2008.

A telecoms industry specialist, Ms Stephenson joined Ivey in 2003 from Lucent Technologies Canada, where she was president and chief executive. She sits on several corporate boards and is also chair of the federal government’s advisory committee on senior level retention and compensation.

In the past four years she has revolutionised Ivey’s programmes, in particular turning the two-year MBA into a one-year programme. She has also spearheaded a fund-raising campaign and is planning to construct a new building on the Western Ontario campus.
