The Great House, St Peter, Barbados, $19.5m

Where: On the west coast of Barbados, near Speightstown, around 16 miles from Grantley Adams International Airport.

What: An eight-bedroom beachfront villa complex that includes four one-bedroom chattel houses. The ground floor of the main house features a bar, receptions, a piano room and covered terraces. Set in one-and-a-half acres of tropical grounds, the property’s focal point is the large swimming pool and poolside bar.

Why: Formerly the home of Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, the chairman of NM Rothschild bank. The house is currently rented for $8,820 per night in the high season.

Hollinshead House, Heawood Hall, Cheshire, UK, £2.25m

Where: On the end of a private road, on the outskirts of Alderley Edge, a village 10 miles from Manchester international airport and 180 miles north west of London.

What: A Grade II-listed barn conversion with five bedrooms and three bathrooms. There is a terrace at the rear with views over the estate grounds of Heawood Hall and around half an acre of landscaped gardens. An indoor 8.5m swimming pool is overlooked by the master bedroom.

Why: David and Victoria Beckham lived here and spent £200,000 refurbishing the property before selling it in 2005 for £1.59m.

Where: In the north east of the Balearic island of Mallorca, near the medieval village of Artà, and around 43 miles from Palma de Mallorca Airport.

What: A country estate set in 62 acres, with two separate guest houses plus a caretaker’s cottage. In all, there are nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The property includes a 25m pool, fitness room, basketball court, stables, riding arena and tennis court.

Why: Currently owned by tennis player Boris Becker, who is selling because of his “international commitments”.

Where: On the southern tip of the Algarve, in the estate of Quinta do Lago, bordered by the Ria Formosa Natural Park and Atlantic ocean, 12 miles from Faro Airport.

What: A six-bedroom, seven-bathroom house with a three-bedroom guest house in 5,956 sq m grounds. As well as a tennis court, football pitch, swimming pool and four-hole putting green, there is additional land amounting to 10,000 sq m of fenced estate.

Why: Once owned by Brazilian Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna, the house was used as his European bolt-hole before his death in 1994.

Where: In Blaine County in central Idaho, around four miles north of Friedman Memorial airport, which has a private jet terminal and daily direct flights to Seattle, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City (seasonally).

What: A 20-acre estate close to the Sawtooth Forest, with gated entry and a security system. The main house has 8,403 sq ft of living space and six bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. The master suite, which overlooks a lake with heated pool and multiple ponds, has a fireplace and two heated decks.

Why: The property is private and is owned by Hollywood actor Bruce Willis.
