Bird conservation group RSPB holds the world’s largest wildlife survey

The RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch, the world’s largest wildlife survey, is taking place this weekend. Since 1979, the RSPB, a bird conservation group, have been asking people to count the birds in their gardens. With more than half a million people now regularly taking part, along with more than 30 years worth of data, Big Garden Birdwatch allows the RSPB to monitor trends and the changing fortunes of birds.

The picture of a robin was taken in Beckenham, south London, in 2011 by photographer Robin Grierson. His portraits of the musician Robert Fripp and the illustrator Ralph Steadman have been published in the Financial Times, and his work has been exhibited at The Photographers Gallery in London and the São Paulo Museum of Art.
