“Post-everything modern music” is how the Portland, Oregon, pair of Jason Buehler and Mark Shirazi describe their sound.
That “post” isn’t just a matter of time: these boys have an appetite for deconstruction. It’s as if this debut album puts psych-rock, dub, motorik rhythms, electronica and even Congolese soukous through a crusher, the sonic equivalent what the visual artist Michael Landy once used.
The reverberating debris that comes out the other side has a dizzying fractal gleam and immense acid grooviness. Nice Nice are the jam band rebooted, recycled and reconfigured. Extra wow, indeed.
