Labour may be trying to present David Cameron as some 1980s throwback like DCI Gene Hunt ... but the Tories got their boot in as well.

The general election has just been officially announced, with the prime minister only going to Buckingham Palace on Tuesday morning after several weeks of unofficial campaigning since the start of the year, but all the main parties were already gearing up their advertising material on Sunday.

The Miliband brothers, David and Ed, went to Basildon to unveil their Ashes to Ashes poster, with mixed results. The Conservatives stayed at HQ to portray Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling as two flower pot men inhabiting a pair of boots, and purportedly trampling over any nascent economic recovery.
