Experimental feature

Sarah Jarosz’s songs are written around mandolin and banjo and, for the most part, lack any percussion but for fingers clawing at strings.

The guests – Chris Thile on mandolin, Jerry Douglas on dobro, Kate Rusby on Yorkshire-accented vocals – accent Jarosz’s songwriting and instrumental virtuosity.

The covers – Dylan’s ‘Simple Twist Of Fate’ and Joanna Newsom’s ‘The Book Of Right-On’ – are at home in this company without dominating.
