At 16, everyone must take a personality test and choose their faction – but what if, like Tris (Shailene Woodley), you can’t be pigeonholed? Thereby hangs this glossy sci-fi fable, based on Veronica Roth’s novel.

With its thrills, spills and tender romance, it’s immaculately crafted to appeal to square-peg teens, and anyone else for whom plausibility is not a priority.
