Instrumental kora duet albums are rare: Toumani Diabaté’s father made one, and Toumani himself made the follow-up, with Ballake Sissokho. This time, he teams up with his son Sidiki, better-known as a Malian hip-hop star but on the evidence here also a skilled traditional player.
The tunes’ origins date back centuries, with father and son reworking them and rededicating them to contemporary statesmen and heroes.
