Although UMUC has an online MBA with students across the globe, this is the first time that UMUC will send professors overseas to teach MBA classes.
The contract between UMUC and the Department of Defence, which covers a range of subjects, including business, social work and education, will be renewed annually, but extends until 2023. The 10-year contract is worth more than $250m.
Professors will teach at US military installations in Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and the UK. An additional part of the contract is to manage more than 20 test centres in Europe so that active service personnel can sit a variety of exams.
UMUC has been educating US troops overseas for the past 64 years. “Educating our troops is a privilege we take very seriously,” said Allan Berg, UMUC Senior Vice President and overseas director. “Our faculty and staff in Europe will strive to deliver the highest quality programmes possible for our students.”
