Chicago Booth economics professors join the G30

Raghuram Rajan, economics professor at Chicago Booth and Axel Weber, visiting professor there, have been appointed to the Group of Thirty, an international body that examines the impact of financial and economic decisions in the public and private sectors.
Members of G30 include representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as academics. Bankers include Mario Draghi, president of the European Central Bank, William Dudley, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and Mervyn King, governor of the Bank of England. On the academic front Paul Krugman, professor of economics at Princeton University is a member, as is Ernesto Zedillo, director of the Yale Center for the Study of Globalization, and former president of Mexico. Larry Summers, former president of Harvard University, is also a member.
“The appointment of Raghuram Rajan and Axel Weber to the G30 is further recognition of their stature as leaders in the field,” says Sunil Kumar, dean of Chicago Booth. “It also shows that Booth’s faculty influence is growing even stronger in the public debate over key issues affecting the world economy.”
In addition to his research and teaching, Prof Rajan is an economic advisor to the Prime Minister of India.
