Trump-Xi summit kicks off in Florida

The presidents have landed.
The much-anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping is finally underway on Thursday evening at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
According to the White House pool report, Mr Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, arrived at 5:10 pm local time and were greeted at the door by Mr Trump and his wife Melania Trump. The presidents and their wives are scheduled to dine together at Mar-a-Lago later this evening.
The rest of the Chinese delegation will not be staying at Mar-a-Lago — “They were invited, but it was a room-size issue,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer told members of the press — and will instead by staying “just down the road,” Mr Spicer added.
The two presidents will have plenty to discuss, including North Korea’s latest provocation and the two countries’ long-standing economic and trade ties among other topics.
