World is much bigger than the EU

From Mr David Parkin

Sir, That fine writer Harry Eyres ends his Slow Lane column (December 17): “Mean-spirited Little Englanders take note.” This sounds priggish.

The world is much bigger than the European Union. Perhaps we need a new phrase, Little Europeans. And, to draw in eurosceptics elsewhere on these islands, Greater Brits.

Recent examples of vitriol emanating from the eurozone – and not only from France or directed at the UK – suggest the EU has failed to foster friendship among the peoples of Europe.
