It’s taken David Crosby 21 years to release a follow-up to his last solo album: the former Byrds man still sets his clock by hippy time. Recorded at Jackson Browne’s Santa Monica studio and featuring Mark Knopfler on guitar, Croz unfolds at a similarly leisurely pace.
The singer’s mellow west-coast tones are carried along by rambling rhythms and flowing harmonies, occasionally diverting him into adult-contemporary mush (“Dangerous Night”), other times channelling the counter-cultural spirit of old (“Time I Have”). Amid the hippy nostalgia, a challenge: “We dream. Don’t we all dream?”
