Divergent – film review

Divergent is a futuristic challenge romp in the Hunger Games style. Feisty heroine Tris (Shailene Woodley) goes mano-a-mano with peers. The world is divided into factions based on virtues: “Abnegation”, “Erudite” etc. Tris is in “Dauntless”; which means she jumps off speeding trains and tall buildings and fights till bloody with anyone willing. Scariest of all – sub specie cinematatis – she must compete for screen time and screen magnetism with Kate Winslet. The latter’s campy, queenly authority as an evil events organiser is, by a mile, the best thing in show.
