When the world is moving towards saving our lovely planet, and just as the Paris climate deal was reached, it is highly remarkable when the “ best beauty buys” of 2018 (Life & Arts, December 15) do not include a single sustainably produced product.

It’s not that these options are not available or not good. They are, and that is why some of us have turned to cosmetics that come in glass jars, creams that come in metal containers and brushes made of wood. Trust me, they do the job.

The media should also be responsible in sending out a clear message that they are keeping abreast with the desperate issues at hand. And since I live in Seoul — and I am of course being partisan here, knowing that Korean cosmetics are sought-after globally — not a single Korean product was featured in the list. Clearly the reviewers is biased towards “western” cosmetics, with only one product from Asia mentioned: a mascara from Japan.

And finally I think this letter warrants publication not just for calling out the Financial Times but also because it takes me half an hour one way by tube just to buy the FT, which is sold in only one shop that I am aware of in Seoul.

Happy Sustainable New Year.
