Sir, For many years business rate payers in the north have paid excessive rates and subsidised rich businesses in the south-east and London. David Cameron and George Osborne deliberately and disgracefully extended this scandal by delaying the revaluation for two years. And now to add insult to injury this government is even postponing the rectification of this scandal.
I don’t see why there should be a phasing-in of higher rates for southern business ratepayers at all, and the cost of such largesse should certainly not be borne by those in poor areas outside the south-east who have been economically devastated by the historic imbalance.
