Some revivals are timely not nostalgic.
Vancouver trio White Lung look back to the grunge-era days of L7, the Lunachicks and Hole, abrasive female-led bands with an uncompromisingly feminist agenda (well, not so uncompromised in Courtney Love’s case).
The reactivation makes perfect sense in the current age of “Blurred Lines” and Yeezus.
Singer Misha Way semi-drawls, semi-howls about power and desire; bandmates Anne-Marie Vassiliou (drums) and Kenneth William (guitar) attack the music with maximum ferocity, adding a classic US hardcore punk drive to the riot-grrrl ethos.
