The Swedish keyed fiddle player Erik Rydvall and his Norwegian counterpart Olav Luksengård Mjelva, on hardanger fiddle, recorded these traditional Scandinavian tunes in a church, and the music is appropriately meditative. The “icebreaker” of the title track shears through prickling high notes; “Beethovens Polska” makes a plausible claim to the Romantic style; “Fogelvikar’n”, with plucked fiddle, could be an old lute melody.
