Exotica – the faux world music popular in the 1950s and early 1960s – is a much-derided art form, but at its best widened its audience’s tolerance for unfamiliar sounds and rhythms.

Mr Ho’s Orchestrotica, all vibes and flute, tackle Western classical music, notably Gershwin and Bach, with the same skewed sensibility, including an oud solo whose intricate time signature sounds like scratched vinyl.
