Champagne is the usual tipple for graduating MBA students, but not so at Ashridge. This year master brewer Johan Spendrup chose to mark the year he spent at the business school in the UK by brewing an English-style ale to share with his friends.

Mr Spendrup, from the Swedish family brewer Spendrups, brewed some 700 bottles of the special ale - known as MBAle.

During his time at Ashridge Mr Spendrup spent some time investigating the UK brewing industry and wrote his dissertation on how smaller UK breweries are able to survive.

“There is a marvellous brewing history in the UK and there are some wonderful traditional beers, particularly from the small, independent breweries,” says Mr Spendrup. “MBAle, which is my own recipe, is made in this style and is my impression of the UK in liquid form! It contains traditional English aroma hops and like Ashridge, is a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation.”

And very nice it is too.......
