The line-up: screen trends
Don Draper and co return to Sky Atlantic on April 10 for a sixth outing into 1960s adland Manhattan. Mid-century is the thing – all muted rosewood and teak, lit by soft lamps. For originals try The Modern Warehouse, (www.themodernwarehouse.com) which is selling this Ejner Larsen & Aksel Bender Madsen Armchair (£1,895, available at time of press). We also like Mar-den for a nicely edited selection (www.mar-den.co.uk).
The Great Gatsby
”My house looks well, doesn’t it?” Gatsby remarks with typical modesty to Daisy in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic. As director Baz Lurhmann prepares to release his film version on May 17 in the UK, Gatsby’s decadent art deco look is filtering on to the shop floor. Think bevelled mirrors, plump white sofas and red velvet. To keep it contemporary, this Navy Tripod Floor Lamp from Made.com is suitably understated (£99).
The Killing is over, but Borgen and The Bridge are promised to return, and with them more envy-making interiors in which nary a blanket, cup or chair fails to be an example of Scandi design beauty. Nordic Elements has a small but good selection of offbeat treasures such as these wooden trays (from £85, www.nordicelements.com). Skandium is also superb (www.skandium.com) and Elliott & Tate is great for Danish originals (www.elliottandtate.com).
