The US men’s water polo team is receiving branding help from MBA students studying at Thunderbird School of Global Management.

As part of a competition for the global brand management class, the four-strong team are analysing the Olympic squad’s brand strengths and weaknesses and will formulate a proposal that the US squad can incorporate into its overal business strategy.

Whilst water polo is a popular sport in California, elsewhere in the US it is not so well known. The students from the Arizona-based school in the US are working to change this, build the brand and lift the sport’s profile to make it more visible.

The students will present their plans in August.

The competition allows students to gain real-world business experience by matching them with companies that want a consultation with Thunderbird students. Other teams in the contest are developing brand plans for a bakery that has expanded to China and a human resources office in India.
