Tom Vilsack, the US agriculture secretary, says even though global commodity prices are rising we are not facing a return to the 2008 food crisis because there are higher food stocks now. Mr Vilsack also outlines his plans to reinvigorate the struggling US rural economy and defends some controversial food-aid policies.
