From Mr Nikhil Prasad Ojha.

Sir, It is not the pact with Republicans that’s broken, it’s the one with “white working class” (“Republicans have reneged on their pact with business”, Edward Luce, July 21). While “profits as a share of the economy are at a record high”, wages have stagnated or declined and the earlier compact has been voided by business. Politics gravitates to money in the short run, and to people over a longer arc: the Republicans are today in the middle of that transition.
