The Brazilian cellist Dominique Pinto – Dom La Nena means The Girl Dom – is an experienced accompanist, for Jane Birkin, Camille and Etienne Daho among others.
Her debut solo album sets her unaffected voice and cello, plucked or shivering, amid layers of other instruments, notably xylophone and harmonium and kora. When it works, as on ‘No Meu Pais’, the scenes she paints have their own mysterious magic.
