Duke appoints Bill Boulding as dean for a further five years

William (Bill) Boulding has been appointed as dean of the Fuqua school at Duke University for a further five years. He stepped up to the job in 2011 following the resignation of Blair Sheppard from the role.

A Fuqua man through and through, Prof Boulding received a PhD in marketing from the Wharton school at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to the North Carolina business school in 1984.

The international search committee considered around 100 candidates for the position before announcing Prof Boulding’s reappointment. Duke President Richard Brodhead described Prof Boulding as someone who combines idealism with practical skill. “A great teacher and community builder, he is ideally suited to lead the Fuqua School in addressing the leadership needs of a changing world.”

Brought up in an academic family, Prof Boulding, 57, has a reputation as a thoroughbred academic and an accomplished teacher, and in the two years as dean has helped build the school’s international profile. He told the FT in October 2012: “I’ve never worked harder. I’ve never slept less. I’ve never had more fun. I’m having a blast.”
