The business school at the University of Strathclyde, in Scotland, has appointed Susan Hart as dean, one of the few women to hold the dean’s job in the UK.
A marketing specialist, Prof Hart was head of the department of marketing and vice-dean for research at Strathclyde before her promotion. She previously worked as a marketing professor at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and was subsequently head of the marketing department at the University of Stirling.
She replaces Charles Harvey, who left Strathclyde in May, after just three years as dean, to take up the post of pro-vice-chancellor at the University of Newcastle.
Strathclyde has a range of programmes including the MBA, which is taught in Europe, the Gulf and Asia, as well as Scotland, and a range of specialist masters programmes in eight different subjects, including marketing, hospitality management and entrepreneurship.
The most well-known woman dean in the UK is Sue Cox, dean of Lancaster University Management School.
