Militants have attacked an army base near a military academy in the Afghan capital Kabul, according to officials.
Defence officials have told the BBC that two Afghan soldiers had been killed and 10 others injured in the attack. Reports suggested that four or five militants were involved.
The base is next to the Marshal Fahim National Defense University, which was built in assistance with the UK and modelled on the British officer training academy Sandhurst.
The attack is the latest in a string of lethal incidents which suggest a deterioration in the Afghan security situation.
On Saturday, more than 100 people died after suicide bombers drove an ambulance into a crowded area of the capital in a district full of government buildings and embassies.
A week before that, attackers entered the Intercontinental Hotel and killed 22 people, also in the capital city.
