Melbourne Business School has appointed a London Business School professor of decision sciences as its next dean. Belgian Zeger Degraeve will begin his four-year term at the school towards the end of the year.

Prof Degraeve will replace Jenny George, who took over as dean at MBS two years ago following a complicated and failed attempt by Melbourne University to merge the school, founded by corporate Australia, with the main university. The business school is now a joint enterprise between the University of Melbourne, Australian corporations and philanthropists.

Specialists in executive education under the Mt Eliza brand, MBS was ranked 35th in the world in the Financial Times 2011 Executive Education rankings.

Prof Degraeve is the second professor to signal his intention to leave LBS this year for a dean’s job elsewhere. Information technology guru Bruce Weber is to move to the US in September to become dean of the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics.
