“Crossover” promises to be this year’s buzzword as the world’s carmakers gather in Detroit for the 2006 North American International Auto Show. Detroit’s own embattled producers Ford and GM will be hoping for a lift from their latest crossover models in what promises to be one of the fastest growing sectors. But the competition is set to be fierce. Across the sector, carmakers are expected this year to unveil about 700 new models.
