World affairs

Joined UN in 1966

Botswana has strongly backed a politically and economically stable postapartheid South Africa. Though the headquarters of the SADC are in Gaborone, the potential for South Africa to dominate the community is a concern. Traditionally pro-Western in orientation, Botswana cherishes its relations with the UK and the US.

World ranking

Schooling, educational attainment, and human development rankings are based on the UN Human Development Index (which covers 172 countries and Hong Kong).
