Upbeat Swatch predicts timely recovery

Swatch Group struck a surprisingly optimistic note about sales this year, as the world’s leading watchmaker predicted the downturn would be only temporary and that demand would rebound in the second half.

The forecast came as the group, known for its ubiquitous Swatch and upmarket brands such as Breguet, said 2008 sales had edged up.
