More heavy rain is forecast for this week, threatening to hamper the clean-up effort from the weekend’s floods.

The Met Office said on Monday that western areas would see the highest rainfall, with rain further waterlogging already saturated ground and “increasing the potential for further problems following the weekend’s events”. After a mainly dry day for most of the country on Monday, rain was expected to move in from the west today and continue on Wednesday.
