Another American woman joins Ms Oppenheimer on the global retail banking division's executive committee. Valerie Soranno Keating , who moved to Barclaycard in August, has succeeded Antony Jenkins at the helm of the credit card business. Ms Soranno Keating spent 15 years at American Express and was a business consultant before that.

The corporate division - a new addition to Bob Diamond's realm - will be headed by John Winter , ex-head of investment banking and debt capital markets at Barclays Capital, reporting to corporate and investment bank co-chiefs, Rich Ricci and Jerry del Missier .
