Longer music copyright backed

Performers and producers in Europe moved a step closer to extended royalties when the legal affairs committee in the European parliament yesterday voted in favour of lengthening the copyright terms for music recordings from the current 50 years to 95 years.

The measure still needs to be approved by the full parliament and member states, some of which have reservations.
