Every two years, about 130 volunteers meet in closed session to take a decision that has lasting ramifications for the economy of a leading international city and its people.

The members of the International Olympic Committee are almost all former sportsmen and women, often Olympic athletes who later settle into full-time careers as teachers and accountants, doctors and diplomats, army officers, princesses and dukes.
