Pay freeze plan for civil servants and doctors

Family doctors, judges and senior public sector managers and civil servants face a two-year pay freeze.

The Conservatives said on Tuesday there would be no pay increase for 4m public sector workers in 2011 if they won the general election. George Osborne, the shadow chancellor, topped Labour’s announcement that it wanted a freeze for higher earners in 2010 with a further pay freeze across the public sector in the following year.
