Hold-ups continue to beset ID card scheme

The multi-billion pound identity card scheme is likely to be delayed again by a Home Office failure to begin the procurement process on schedule.

The process of allocating the contracts was expected to begin within weeks of the ID cards bill getting on the statute book on March 30. But the starting date now appears to have been put back to the autumn.
