Retail sales fell in May following a robust performance a month earlier , but the sector remains strong compared with other parts of the economy.
The CBI's monthly distributive trades survey, published yesterday, showed sales were weaker than in April - which was boosted by the timing of Easter - but stronger than any month before that for almost a year.
