Asian stocks tumble on Wall Street woes

Asian stocks fell sharply on Wednesday, led by Tokyo, following overnight sell-offs on Wall Street amid growing concerns about the subprime mortgage market.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended the day down 2.9 per cent to 16,676.89, with the broader Topix index also 2.9 per cent lower at 1,674.94.
