US universities still fire-fighting

Markets are improving, but many foundations and endowments are still struggling to find the liquidity they need to meet their spending and cash requirements.

Consultants note that donations and portfolio valuations are still down, leading some high-profile universities to try to sell their private holdings or issue bonds to cover costs.
