Plan for Bush visit signals ties with Germany improving

Although his ties with President Vladimir Putin of Russia are ever more strained, President George W. Bush's bitter relationship with Gerhard Schröder, the German chancellor, appears to be mending.

White House officials confirmed yesterday that they were seeking to arrange a presidential visit to Germany early next year and a trip to the US from Mr Schröder.
