European carmakers given some mileage

There were tentative signs of investors returning to Europe’s troubled carmakers this week as the Continent’s bourses continued to rally off their recent lows.

The FTSE Eurofirst 300 index of leading shares rose 2.7 per cent to 737.46 – a 19-point advance. European equities have now gained 14 per cent since hitting a fresh 12-year low in early March.
