Fed hits spot over consumer debt-backed bonds

The Federal Reserve’s programme aimed at propping up the market for bonds backed by credit card and auto loans has enjoyed some success.

Investors are once again buying this type of asset-backed debt, and the costs of borrowing have come down sharply since the programme kicked off in March.
