Councils set for £200m to ease schools crisis

Ed Balls, children’s secretary, is to approve £200m of emergency funding for local authorities facing a crisis over primary school admissions.

The rising birth rate and recession has led to a surge in applications for places this September, leaving some councils with no option but to build temporary classrooms and hire extra teachers.
