US forces suffer deadliest month in Afghanistan

October became the deadliest month to date for US forces in Afghanistan after eight troops were killed yesterday by insurgents' bombs a day after 11 others perished in two separate helicopter crashes.

"Eight US service members and an Afghan civilian. . . were killed in multiple complex improvised explosive device attacks in southern Afghanistan," the military said in a brief statement, explaining it was withholding details until next of kin were informed.
