India fails to shed child mortality tag

A decade of fast paced economic growth has not helped India shed its reputation for having the worst infant mortality record in the world, a study by Save the Children, the UK-based non-governmental organisation, has showed.

In spite of achieving growth rates of 9 per cent over the past years and being seen as an economy that could help pull the world out of recession, Asia’s third largest economy is not transforming the lives of many of the most vulnerable among its 1.2bn population.
