Ian Livingston unveiled his first big decision as BT chief executive on Tuesday, announcing plans for the leading fixed-line telecom company to launch a super-fast broadband network in 10m homes.

Mr Livingston, who became chief executive only six weeks ago, was happy to claim credit for the momentous decision to commit to a large-scale, optical fibre-based broadband network.
